Bethel Mennonite Church of Mt. Lake invites the community to begin the first day of Lent on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 14, at an early-morning, drive-through marking of ashes event.
The public is encourage to drive through the church’s north side circular drive at 301 9th St. North, from 7 to 8:30 a.m. All ages, children to adults, are encouraged to attend before work or school.
Individuals can stay in their vehicles, stop at the elevator door and be blessed with the marking of ashes on their foreheads (or a heart stamp). Those driving through also will be offered a free cup of coffee or orange juice and a doughnut.
The marking of ashes provides an opportunity for individuals to openly acknowledge one’s frailty and sinfulness. In a world that often expects people to be perfect, Ash Wednesday gives an opportunity to freely acknowledge our imperfections.
