Heritage Fair notes community’s history

There was an excitement in the air at the 46th annual Heritage Fair, also known as Utschtallung. People, from near and far, came for fun, ethnic food, fellowship and a chance to look back and share memories with others. It was a perfect day to stroll through Heritage Village and visit the historic pioneer buildings filled with authentic furniture, wares, tools of trade and more. Ethnic foods at Heritage Fair included perischke, schnetke, portzilke, zwieback, verenike, moos and peppernuts plus other treats. The food building was a great place to visit with friends and enjoy some favorite Mennonite fixings. There was a lot to see and do at Heritage Fair. Exhibits and demonstrations, arts and crafts, a bake sale and delicious homemade ice cream were among the offerings. Fun activities included a bean bag toss and rope-jumping by the caboose and a stop in the depot offered some genealogy information. Mt. Lake historical pictures and yearbooks were on display in the Welcome Center.
